Hive Tables

This complementary pair of tables was designed to explore the notion of a contemporary beehive in the context of furniture. Each table is multi-layered, and incorporate rotating layers that expand outward. The visual design incorporates layering of mixed wood and paper materials that nod to the building of repeatable forms as an actual hive would do. Exposed holes and color striation create interest. An actual bee (previously expired and found on my window sill) was fitted into one of the expanding leaves, and encased in resin.
